About

Helen is a dancer, choreographer and movement practitioner

fundamentally interested in people moving together

and exploring possibilities for creative play

                through dance improvisation.

       Receiving her MFA Choreography from Roehampton University London,    Helen has been making new choreographic work independently

                   as well as creating numerous faculty works for undergraduate

dancers for over twenty years,

                      Her work addresses some of the complexities of our

                                   embodied relationships with our sense of self and with                                     each other, explored through improvised encounters

                                        using music, text and touch,

                                                       and has been presented at venues

                                                     in the UK and internationally.

 Helen's movement practice is underpinned by the study of Bartenieff Fundamentals and other release-based movement philosophies, with a firm belief in the frameworks these practices offer for dance training and expressive living.

As a doctoral student, her research lies in her movement practice and seeks to interrogate further improvisatory practices in dance informed by theories of the body, space and environment.

Helen is a senior member of the dance faculty at Middlesex University London,   co-curator and resident choreographer with collaborator Adesola Akinleye for the trip project (Turning Research Ideas into Practice), founding member of TIN (TransDisciplinary Improvisation Network) and co-founder of Coterminous, a cross-disciplinary ensemble of dance, music and film.
