Helen Kindred
dancer | choreographer | movement practitioner

About
Helen is a dance artist-scholar
fundamentally interested in people moving together
and exploring possibilities for creative exploration
through movement improvisation.
Helen earned her MFA Choreography from Roehampton University, her PhD from Middlesex University and has been making new choreographic work for over twenty five years.
Her work addresses some of the complexities of our embodied relationships with our sense of self and with each other, explored through improvised encounters using sound, text and touch, and has been presented at venues internationally.
Helen's movement practice is underpinned by the study of Bartenieff Fundamentals and other somatic movement philosophies, with a firm belief in the frameworks these practices offer for dancing and expressive living. Her doctoral research explores relationships between somatic practice and improvised performance-making through experiences of body-space-environment. Her current research takes this focus into adventures of natural environments and the development of pedagogies of practice in movement.
Helen is co-Artistic Director of DancingStrong Movement Lab with Adesola Akinleye, a Trustee of BEEE Creative and Director of Dance and Professional Practice programmes at Middlesex University London.
